Modern Upright
The Modern Upright features a Yamaha U3 piano in great condition recorded with utmost care. Recorded in a large auditorium recording room, divided as a large stage area and a space for live audience. This studio is mainly used to broadcast live performances with high acoustical demands. The ambience sound is detailed with a medium long decay time. The Modern Upright was recorded from seven microphone perspectives ranging from close to far, floor to soundboard and mono to stereo. Perfectly composed for mixing and matching in Addictive Keys.
The recording process
The recordings were done using rare vintage tube, ribbon and floor microphones capturing the instrument from seven different perspectives, mono and stereo from close up with microphones next to the soundboard, to far away perspective with natural room ambience. The result is a piano that can be shaped to fit any mix in any production and music genre. From smooth jazz or singer songwriter with a warm vintage sound to a tight intimate, lush and luxurious pop sound.
The vintage microphones used for the recordings were handpicked from a vast microphone collection. After auditioning a large number of different perspectives seven perspectives were chosen:
